Second wife of murdered Mfantseman MP pops up

BhiojhjiSarah Quansah Hayford is alleged to be the second wife of the late MP

It has emerged that the slain Member of Parliament for Mfantseman, Ekow Quansah Hayford, was married to two women.

The Ghanaian public has become aware of only one widow (Ophelia Quansah Hayford), who the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) has selected to replace him as the Parliamentary candidate for the upcoming December 7 Parliamentary election.

However, Kasapa FM’s investigations revealed that the late lawmaker was legally married to two accomplished women.

According to the second wife, Sarah Quansah Hayford, when the murdered MP met her in 2009, he told her he had no wife at the time as he is divorced, hence his courage to meet her family to ask for her hand in marriage.

She told Kasapa FM‘s Akwasi Nsiah that they got married on 8th June 2013 at a public event that saw them signing their marriage documents at the court and have since been living with the late MP at Tarkwa.

Sarah Quansah Hayford said she later got to know that the late legislator was still married to his first wife after the latter called her in 2016 to inform her that Ekow Quansah Hayford was still married to her.

“At the time Ophelia called me, I had been married to Ekow for the past three years and living with him at Tarkwa. Feeling very shocked, I called my husband and asked him who Ophelia was? He told me to ignore her whenever she calls me and I told him he needed to explain things to me because the woman keeps sending me text messages. It emerged that he had not officially divorced his first wife as he indicated but he couldn’t tell me the truth, the reason why I agreed to marry him. I asked what was the way forward and my late husband told me that he’ll sort out the issue and so I was waiting for his action. But since then I never heard from anyone including his first wife. I’ve been staying with him at Tarkwa and he visits his mother occasionally on weekends being the only child.

“When the matter came up I went to see his mother for a discussion and she told me to hold my peace and that the issue has already happened. It is true that her son is already married and has married me as well. All the family members know and accept that Ekow has two wives and so I shouldn’t be worried. This is what his mother told me,” Sarah added.

Ekow Quansah Hayford was killed by suspected armed robbers last Friday while returning from a campaign at Abeaze Dominase.

It will be recalled that Ghanaians got to know when the late Member of Parliament Ayawaso West Wuogon, Emmanuel Kyerematen Agyarko died that he was actually married to two women after one of the wives was projected in the media as the only widow.

This followed reports to the effect that they had expressed interest in his seat in Parliament.

One of the wives, Lydia Alhassan eventually was selected by the party to replace his late husband and she’s currently the MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon.

John Dumelo ‘hangs out’ with Lydia Alhassan

Dumelo And Lydia AlhassanA photo of the two aspiring parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon

John Dumelo and Lydia Seyram Alhassan have exemplified what Ghanaians expect from politicians as they have shown that despite their affiliation with two opposing parties and competitive interest in seeking to represent the same constituency in parliament, they have a mutually respectful relationship.

In recent times, the two; Lydia Alhassan who is contesting on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and John Dumelo who’s on the opposition National Democratic Congress’ ticket have on several occasions been spotted embarking on developmental projects in the constituency by way of garnering votes for the upcoming polls.

The duo have on some campaign platforms jabbed each other as they bid to win the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat which has since its establishment been the reserve of the NPP.

Ghanaians have at some point wondered how the duo have been far apart embarking on projects in the same vicinity.

But in a heart-warming picture circulating widely on social media, the two are seen hugging each other which typifies the love and respect for each other The enthusiastic Dumelo as seen in the photo was in a pose with Lydia Alhassan with some party members around at Dzorwulu.

Meanwhile, GhanaWeb cannot independently confirm when the picture was taken.

Male Breast Cancer

All people, whether male or female, are born with some breast cells and tissue. Even though males do not develop milk-producing breasts, a man’s breast cells and tissue can still develop cancer. Even so, male breast cancer is very rare. Less than one percent of all breast cancer cases develop in men, and only one in a thousand men will ever be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Breast cancer in men is usually detected as a hard lump underneath the nipple and areola. Men carry a higher mortality than women do, primarily because awareness among men is less and they are less likely to assume a lump is breast cancer, which can cause a delay in seeking treatment. The majority of men diagnosed are over the age of 50.

Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma

Of the men who develop breast cancer, the vast majority of those cases are Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma (IDC), which means cells in or around the ducts begin to invade surrounding tissue. Very rarely, a man might be diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer or Paget disease of the nipple, which is Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) contained within the nipple and usually areola.

Risk Factors

  • Radiation exposure
  • High levels of the hormone estrogen
  • Family history of breast cancer, especially breast cancer that is related to the BRCA2 gene.

Signs & Symptoms

Male breast cancer can exhibit the same symptoms as breast cancer in women, including a lump. Anyone who notices anything unusual about their breasts, whether male or female, should contact their physician immediately.

Most men find their own lump while in the shower and it is usually located underneath the nipple and areola. It is common for men to delay reporting the lump to a physician which can result in the patient requiring more treatment.

Nearly all breast cancer in men is estrogen receptor positive with treatment including hormonal therapy, just as it does for 70% of women. Survival rates and treatment for men with breast cancer are very similar to those for women. Early detection of breast cancer increases treatment options and often reduces the risk of dying from breast cancer.

Genetic Testing

Although treatment outcomes are very similar to women at the same stage of detection, a man diagnosed with breast cancer should also consider seeing a genetics counselor for a consultation. If a man tests positive for a defective gene (most commonly either BRCA1 or BRCA2) that can lead to a future diagnosis of breast cancer and his children have a 50% chance of carrying the gene. In addition:

  • A male child of a man with breast cancer who inherits the defective BRCA2 gene has only approximately 6% chance of eventually developing breast cancer and just over 1% with BRCA1.
  • A female child of a man with breast cancer who inherits the defective gene has a risk between 40% and 80% of eventually developing breast cancer.
  • Men with a genetic predisposition to breast cancer (carrying BRCA2 gene mutation) are also at higher risk of getting prostate cancer at a younger age than usually diagnosed, as well as being at higher risk for melanoma and pancreatic cancer.

Arrested.pngThe four examiners are assisting with Police investigations

Four examiners believed to have carelessly leaked the 2020 West African Examination Council scripts which were entrusted to them have been arrested.

The four WAEC examiners were picked up from Accra, Cape Coast, Kasoa, and Adukrom after videos and photos of scripts that captured the details of students made rounds on social media.

The Head of the Public Relations of WAEC, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe in an interview with Graphic described the incident as unfortunate adding that “the scripts, marking schemes and attendance mark sheets should be kept under lock and key anytime an examiner is not working on them.”

Mrs Teye-Cudjoe entreated all examiners to handle marking schemes, scripts among others as security materials and ensure at all times that they do not “divulge information of candidates as contained in the letter engaging them as examiners.”

She indicated that investigations revealed that a grandchild or a nephew-in-law to the examiners were behind the circulated videos and snapshots.

The arrested persons according to the Head of Legal of WAEC, Rev. Victor Brew, would be handed over to the police to be charged and prosecuted under the Data Protection Act alongside WAEC’s rules and regulations on marking rules.

Whatsup News Editor picked up over news report, Sent to the Ashanti Region

David Tamakloe was arrested yesterday

David Tamakloe, the Managing Editor of Whatsup News, a digital newspaper, was arrested at his office on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, reportedly over a news story his outfit published in July.

According to GhanaWeb sources, Tamakloe was sent to the Tesano Police Station by officials of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday afternoon and later in the night, he was dragged to New Edubiase in the Ashanti Region.

Tamakloe’s arrest, reports say, was in connection with a report published by the virtual newspaper about a press conference by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the recent nationwide registration for the new voters’ ID cards which was organised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

At the said press conference, the NDC reportedly alleged that the Ewe and various citizens from northern Ghana sojourned in the New Edubiase were being intimidated by supporters of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“Today, the Editor-In-Chief of the digital newspaper Whatsup News was picked up by some personnel who say they are National Security Operatives to a location that is not readily known,” the Management of the media outlet disclosed.

Edudzi Tamakloe who is the counsel representing the journalist told ModernGhana.com that the New Edubiase District Court issued a bench warrant for his client’s arrest over the said publication.

The journalist is said to have ignored an earlier police invitation, thereby seeking a bench warrant for his arrest by the New Edubiase police.

Tamakloe is expected to be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction this morning.

Prior to Tamakloe’s arrest, it was reported that the Ghana Police Service officials at New Edubiase arrested one Francis Kwame Konu for sharing the content of the digital newspaper against the laws on publication of fake news.

There is controversy and tension over the arrest since the Whatsup News team claim the said news report was verified by Whatsup News as having emanated from a press conference organised by the NDC.

Ghana’s law on publication of Fake News

Election 2020: GUM will win by 65% – Osofo Kyiri Abosom

Rev Kwabena Andrews has filed his nomination to contest in the 2020 Presidential Elections.

Flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement, Reverend Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has declared that his party will emerge victors of the 2020 Presidential elections by amassing 65% of votes.

In his assessment, GUM as a political party has aligned itself with the needs of the Ghanaian populace and is in the position to displace the ruling New Patriotic Party and the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress come December 7.

“We are on the ground. The elites are being deceived by what they see in the cities. This is the same mistake Nkrumah’s opponents made. They did not know Nkrumah had the masses until he took them by surprise. NPP started in the 90s, our party is only new but we are going to take them by surprise,” he stated in an interview with the media after filing his nomination with the Electoral Commission on Tuesday, October 6, 2020,

With a campaign message of building an industralised Ghana with an all-inclusive government that works for the poor, the founder and General Overseer of Life Assembly Worship Center is fast growing his base among the Christian community and rural folks.

As flagbearer of GUM, Rev Andrews has partnered with Alhaji Abu Grant Lukman, a businessman as his running mate for the 2020 general elections.

Speaking to the media after joining his flagbearer to present their nomination at the EC headquarters, Alhaji Lukman said his ideology as an Nkrumaist made it natural for him to partner with his flagbearer who also shares in the ideas of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

“I am an Nkrumaist so if I happen to come across a person who has the same idea that I cherish, I think it is normal for me to give him my support.”
