University of Ghana ranked first in Ghana and West Africa.KNUST and UCC emerges 18th and 40th respectively.

The University of Ghana had been ranked as the best university in both Ghana and West Africa according to the January 2022 webometric rankings.It picked the 11th spot in Sub-Saharan Africa based on webometric rankings and 15th spot in Africa based on AD 2022 Scientific index. . Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and University of Cape Coast were also ranked 18th and 40th in Sub-Saharan Africa respectively in the webometric rankings

 

The 2022 AD Scientific Index, which has more focus on the biophysical sciences, places the University of Ghana as first in Ghana, 15th out of the 2,049 universities in Africa, and at 1,704 out of 14,284 universities surveyed globally per the report.

Both Webometrics and the AD Scientific Index rank institutions based on their performance across standard indicators of excellence. These include the quality of education, the quality of faculties within an individual university, international collaborations, the number of highly cited researchers selected by Clarivate Analytics, the total number of research in the Science Citation Index-Expanded and Social Science Citation Index, as well as the number of research articles receiving a high number of citations among others.
